Add it to your baby's photo album!
Ok, call me dumb but I was laminating things last week and because I had some extra space, I decided to laminate my baby’s ultrasound photos. Whoa… what a mistake! I ruined 1 photo of my current pregnancy, and about 10% of my first born’s photos before I realized the heat was melting the ultrasound photos black! Luckily I noticed it before they were ALL ruined and I quickly pulled it backwards out of the laminator.
Here is HOW you should perserve your baby’s ultrasound photos the right way without damaging them because we all know these are probably some of the most sentimental and memorable photos you will ever take in your lifetime.
These photos do tend to deteriorate quickly because,(as I just found out), they are printed with thermal imaging paper whichcan fade in bright lights or under pressure. If you want to make sure you perserve them the best way you can for the longest durability, do these following things:
1) Scan it. Scan the sonogram in high resolution, keep a digital copy and print it out! This way you have back up in case.
2) Put in a frame. Yes, any simple photo frame will do but if you look at specialty stores such as Michael’s you can now find specially designed keepsake frames just for baby sonograms.
3) Scrapbook it. Cover it with clear plastic and add it in your baby’s keepsake scrapbook as the introduction to their amazing life.
4) Photo album it. Get the ones where it’s sticky on one side and plastic on the other so that it is air tight as possible. I read somewhere that ultrasounds from the 80’s kept this way look just as great 30 years later!
5) Laminate it. Self-adhesive lamination paper that doesn’t use heat! Or because you did step one, laminate your photocopies as these can’t melt in heat.
